12 Companies Hiring The Most In Britain Now
With unemployment in Britain sitting at just 5.1%, fewer people than at any time since before the financial crisis are out of work right now.
However, there are still 1.77 million unemployed people in the UK today, and they’re all looking for a job.
Using data given to us by Jobspotting, a German job search site, we’ve put together a list of the companies hiring the most right now. Business Insider’s parent company, Axel Springer, has a small stake in Jobspotting.
The ranking is based on the number of job vacancies the companies have listed as active right now excluding recruitment firms.
In our ranking, we’ve included examples of the sort of jobs available at each company, as well as a brief description of what that job entails.
So if you’re looking for a new job, take a look at the companies in Britain that are hiring the most.
12. JP Morgan
Number of jobs: 135
What they do: JP Morgan is one of the world’s largest and most recognisable banks. The company does everything from retail banking to asset management to mergers & acquisitions. It employs over 265,000 people worldwide.
Example job: Applications Support Director, Bournemouth — “The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strategic, analytical, senior management and hands on technology skills with a focus on receivables/payables processing. Candidate must have superior organizational management, talent management and relationship building skills with significant experience managing an end to end technology environment at a senior level.”
11. Bristol Street Motors

What they do: A division of Vertu Motors, Bristol Street Motors is one of the UK’s largest chains of car dealerships, selling brands including Ford, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, and Renault across Britain.
Example job: Business Manager, Peugeot, Oxford — “We are looking for a driven, motivated and disciplined individual who is able to communicate well and create a rapport with our customers. Your passion, energy and commitment must be second to none and should be able to be demonstrated at interview. What they do: Safestyle UK is one of Britain’s biggest installers of replacement windows and doors, based in Bradford, England. The company is famous for its Buy One Get One Free offers, and off-the-wall advertising. It floated on the AIM share exchange in 2013.

What they do: William Hill is the biggest bookmaker in Britain, with more than 2,000 shops, and 16,000 staff. The firm will allow you to bet on anything from football results to whether or not Britain will vote for Brexit.

What they do: Halfords deals with pretty much anything that has wheels, and is one of the UK’s best known car and bike part retailers, as well as carrying out repairs and services. With revenues in excess of a £1 billion, it is listed on the FTSE 250.
Example job: Senior Technician, Llandudno — “A Halfords Autocentre Senior Technician naturally takes the lead within the workshop, with responsibilities including: Servicing, inspections and MOT testing; Complex repair work and diagnostics; Looking after the front of house customer service, supporting the Autocentre Manager to deliver a fantastic customer experience.”
7. Countrywide Group

What they do: The biggest estate agent group in the UK, Countrywide owns dozens of agencies all over Britain, including big names like Hamptons, and Bairstow Eves. More than 11,000 people are employed by the firm across the UK.

We require an individual who is professional, methodical and organised, who can demonstrate excellent attention to detail and will help maintain the exceptional levels of customer service we pride ourselves on.”

What they do: Travis Perkins is a builders’ merchant and home improvement retailer, selling bricks, wood, cement, and virtually anything needed to build things. The company has more than 24,000 staff, and is listed on the FTSE 100.

What they do: Part of the loosely connected Virgin network of companies — founded by Richard Branson — Virgin Media is a major provider of TV, phone, and internet services across large parts of Britain.

4. Provident Financial

What they do: Based out of their Bradford headquarters, Provident Financial specialises in credit cards, online loans, and car financing. It owns several companies, including short term loan company Satsuma. It is one of the members of the FTSE 100, and has revenues in excess of £1 billion.
Example job: Project Manager for Satsuma Loans, Bradford — “You will be responsible for the end to end delivery of multiple mobile & ecommerce projects which relate to our Satsuma business and future online businesses. What they do: Another of the UK’s largest bookmakers, Coral employs fewer people than William Hill, but right now, it has nearly 50 more job openings. The company is expected to formally merge with Ladbrokes this week, creating a new super-bookmaker.

This is a varied and hands-on role and you will be expected take responsibility right from day one.”

What they do: Amey isn’t a hugely well-known company, but it employs more than 21,000 people throughout the UK, and specialises in infrastructure projects like highway and rail management, and waste collection. Basically all the stuff that keeps society running smoothly.
Example job: Arborist Climber, Northampton — “We are looking for a highly skilled arborist to join the Tree Services team in Peterborough to deliver and specify high quality works in line with a best practice and best value approach and undertake tree condition surveys, provide reports and support to colleagues, customers and clients as required in Peterborough and the surrounding region.”
1. Dixons Carphone

What they do: The company, which was formed in late 2014 by a merger of Carphone Warehouse Group and Dixons, essentially sells consumer electronic goods. Everything from the latest iPhone, to a laptop, to a new washing machine. It is a member of the FTSE 100, and revenues approached £10 billion in 2015.
