Our client is an independent laboratory- based company servicing the oil and gas industry. As well as providing production chemistry services they also design and manufacture bespoke laboratory instruments and test rigs which test chemicals for oilfield applications. These are used both in-house and in laboratories worldwide.

The company are seeking a Senior Engineer to join their team to oversee Engineering projects and supervise the Engineering Workshop.

The successful candidate will have an engineering qualification and a hands-on background in an Engineering environment, working with a variety of design and build projects.

Principal Duties will depend on entry level for this post including:-

  • Construction of special purpose laboratory test equipment to fulfill customer contracts
  • Day to day management and organisation of the engineering workshop to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Managing facilities engineering, liaising with contractors and supporting lab engineering requirements
  • Planning and prioritisation of projects, resource and staff
  • Management of safety, quality and environmental systems within the Engineering Workshop, in line with ISO9001
  • Input into proposals, quotes, reports and presentation to customers
  • Allocation and timetabling of resources, equipment and consumables for equipment build and routine in-house maintenance
  • Liaising with customers on new projects
  • Input into creation and design of Rigs and associated Rig Manuals
  • Travel to customer sites to carry out equipment servicing, modifications and repairs (this may include international travel)
  • Creation of parts list, Bill of Materials, equipment design and procurement of new products
  • Maintain drawing database, create Flow diagrams and new equipment specifications
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Following core processes and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Working to our ISO 9001 quality management system with traceable, repeatable work completed to timescale
  • Assisting with housekeeping, 5S, audits and H&S as required
  • Any other relevant duties as required

Essential skills/experience

  • Recognised Engineering qualification
  • Background of working in a hands- on instrument engineering environment
  • Experience in the design requirements and project management of small engineering projects
  • Strong supervision skills
  • Knowledge and practical experience of assembly work, maintenance and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment
  • Experience in the use of workshop equipment including lathe and milling machines
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings

Desirable skills/experience

  • Experience of equipment calibration (temperature, pressure, volume, mass)
  • Experience with Swagelok, Parker and other tube fittings, pneumatic or hydraulic systems and workshop machining
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic systems
  • Experience in data acquisition systems
  • Experience working with pressurised fluid systems
